Alone in the Afterlife
A downloadable game
you are dead. pity, that. you find yourself on the shore of an interminably long river, enrobed in shadow. there is a boat, and an oar. you find yourself drawn to it, an inescapable attraction. looks like everyone must put in their shift as the ferryman. if only you could remember who you were, maybe you could shake the feeling of being stuck in this place.
In this game, you take the role of a nameless, recently dead soul who must (temporarily) take up the mantle of the ferryman. As you ferry other souls across the river, you will reflect and hope to recover your memories of who you were in life. By asking yourself difficult questions and challenging the way you view the world, you may find your way.
Uses a standard 52-card deck of playing cards, and 1 or 2 six-sided dice, along with a journal.
Alone in the Afterlife is a hack of Takuma Okada's Alone Among the Stars, with a single-stat mechanic inspired by John Harper's Lasers & Feelings. Please check them out!

Downloaded 'Alone in the Afterlife' this morning 13-10-24.
Played it the entire afternoon after a breif play of 'Alone Amough The Stars', it's inspiration.
15 x A5 pages of story later. 'A journal of eight souls crossing and what you learnt about yourself, the ninth'.
This is beautiful, immersive and insightful. Highly recommended!!!
Thank you for your kind words!
