A downloadable game

A casual puzzle game for Playdate.  Make columns of three matching tiles by shifting the three rows left or right, but keep an eye on your remaining moves!  Each completed column awards you more moves to keep playing.

Features:

  • Relaxing background music (which can be toggled off from the system menu)
  • Three game modes, each with a different ruleset to provide different experiences -- including 'rush' mode, a race against the clock
  • Two different tilesets to change up your visuals

New in version 1.1:

  • Daily challenge modes24 hours to beat your best score on fixed, deterministic setups, one for each game mode.  New daily setups at midnight local time, every day!  (Thanks to rae for the idea!)
  • Version string in the Credits screen

Some notes:

This is a port of a game originally by LightForce Games in 2005.  This is done in homage, and is not an attempt to infringe in any way.  I have set this page to no payments and will never accept any payment for this game.

I first encountered Blix in the form of Blix2X on the GP2X handheld, ported by alxmdev.  I've been addicted to this game off and on in the intervening years, and it just seemed to be a perfect fit for the Playdate.  I've certainly added a few of my own tweaks to this version (the balanced and rush modes are my own rulesets), but I hope I've retained the heart of the original game.  I sincerely hope you enjoy this free game.

🦖 This game contains some brief flashing animations, but otherwise is suitable for everyone.

🚹 This app uses the D-pad, the A and B buttons, and optionally the crank.  Classic and Balanced mode do not require any quick inputs.  Rush mode may be a bit more intense.

The "balanced" game mode doesn't really feel balanced. Can barely reach 3000 points. Feels as if you can still block yourself from moves in that mode, there isn't a guarantee that you can continue.

I love the concept! BUT it's been challenging to enjoy such brief games. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.

The 'balanced' mode isn't a guarantee that you'll be able to always have a move.  It's not an 'endless' mode, nor was that my intention.  You absolutely can still block yourself in, it's the nature of the game :)

I understand! I misunderstood, I thought that there was going to be a guarantee of at least one potential move.

I will then do my best to improve :) thank you!

One hint, if you're not already using it, is to make sure to use the 'wrapping' of the rows to your advantage -- they wrap left/right, and only fill with new blocks from the left side after making a column.  Often you can save a run by setting up a leftmost or rightmost column over a couple turns.

This is way harder than it looks!
